Void
Void
Pure potential rests in formless space. The void is not absence — it is the source from which all creation springs.
The Source of All Forms
The Void — Shunyata in the Buddhist tradition, the Unmanifest in the Vedic — is the most misunderstood of all spiritual concepts. The word "void" suggests emptiness in the sense of lack, but this is the opposite of what the contemplatives mean. Shunyata is the emptiness that is full — the space from which all forms arise and to which all forms return, the silence from which all sound emerges, the darkness from which all light becomes visible.
Cell Fifty-Five places the Void at this advanced position in the Lila journey because only the practitioner who has moved through the earlier cells — through ego, attachment, and the various forms of resistance — has the inner ground to receive this teaching without collapsing into nihilism on one side or bypassing it into abstraction on the other.
The void is not nothing. It is the ground of everything. And the practitioner who can rest in it — even briefly, even imperfectly — discovers a quality of peace and openness that no circumstance can remove, because it does not depend on any circumstance. It is the peace that passes understanding.
The practice: sit in silence for five minutes and deliberately let go of thinking, planning, remembering, and imagining. Simply rest in the awareness that remains when content is released. Notice what is always there.
I rest in the vast open ground of pure being, and from this stillness everything becomes possible.
