Stillness
In the eye of the inner storm, perfect peace waits. Meditation is the door — will you open it?
The Eye of the Storm
The Tao Te Ching says: be like water. And water, in its deepest expression, is the still pool at the mountain's base — not stagnant, but profoundly at rest, capable of reflecting the sky with perfect clarity precisely because it is not in motion. Cell Thirty-Nine — Stillness — is the Lila's invitation into the eye of whatever storm is moving through your life.
The contemplatives distinguish between stillness as an experience and stillness as a ground. The experience of stillness is temporary — it comes in meditation, in nature, in certain moments of music or prayer. The ground of stillness is the unconditioned awareness that underlies all experience, the ocean beneath the waves. The practitioner's task is to find this ground and, over time, to live increasingly from it rather than from the reactive surface.
This cell does not ask you to become passive or to stop engaging with life. It asks you to discover the still point within engagement — the place from which you can be fully present to the turbulence around you without being turbulent yourself.
The practical invitation: sit in genuine stillness for ten minutes today. No input. No task. Simply breathe and witness what arises. Notice that there is a part of you that is watching the thoughts without being the thoughts.
Beneath all the motion, I am the stillness that has always been here.
