Temptation

Every hero's journey includes a moment of temptation — the call to return to the known, the comfortable, the managed, just before the threshold of transformation. Cell Thirty-Seven appears on the Lila board in the upper half of the game, where the stakes are higher and the ego's resistance to genuine change grows proportionally stronger.

The Lila's understanding of temptation is not moralistic. It does not call temptation evil. It calls it understandable. The familiar is genuinely comfortable. The old pattern is genuinely known. What the board asks is whether comfort and familiarity are the values you want navigating your life, or whether there is something that matters more.

The specific temptation at this point in the journey is often not one of the obvious vices. It is the subtler temptation to settle — to choose the good enough over the genuinely right, the path of least resistance over the path of deepest integrity. The soul knows the difference immediately. It feels like a small contraction when you consider the settling, and a small expansion when you consider the harder, truer path.

The practice: sit with whatever temptation is live in your life right now. Do not immediately act on it or resist it. Simply ask it: what are you offering me? And: what will I lose if I take it?

I choose from my highest knowing, not from my deepest comfort.
