Cell Thirty-Eight is one of the most beloved squares on the Lila board, because its teaching is both simple and profoundly counter-cultural: courage is not the absence of fear. It is the willingness to act from love, integrity, or truth in the presence of fear. The fearless person does not actually exist. What exists is the person who has learned to act despite the fear, who has refused to let the fear be the final word.

This inner warrior is not aggressive. It is steadfast. It takes the next step even when the ground looks unsteady, because it has learned to trust the path even when it cannot see the destination.
