Resistance
Resistance
Fighting what is only deepens suffering. Surrender is not defeat — it is the opening of the gate.
The Clenched Fist
The Tao Te Ching begins with a paradox: the soft overcomes the hard. Water, the most yielding of substances, carves canyons through rock. Cell Eighteen — Resistance — is the Lila's invitation to feel this teaching in your own body, in your own circumstances.
Resistance is the energy of fighting what is. It is the insistence that reality should be different from how it is. And there is a deep irony embedded in resistance: the act of pushing against something is what gives it power over you. Every argument you have with what is, is an argument you lose, because reality is not going to change its position to accommodate your preference. What changes — what can only be changed — is your relationship to it.
This is not the same as approval. Surrendering resistance to a difficult reality does not mean endorsing it, celebrating it, or refusing to work to change it. It means accepting it clearly, seeing it accurately, and then deciding what to do from a place of clarity rather than reaction.
Landing here asks: what in your life are you fighting hardest right now? And what would actually happen if you relaxed that fight — not gave up the goal, but released the struggle against the present moment?
The practical invitation: take three slow breaths, and with each exhale, consciously release one layer of resistance to something you cannot immediately change.
I release what I cannot control, and in releasing I find my true power.
