Grace

Of all the ladders on the Lila board, Cell Seventeen carries perhaps the most breathtaking ascent: from the square of Grace, the piece leaps forward to Cell Sixty-Nine, the realm of True Reality. This is the game's most eloquent teaching: Grace does not inch you forward — it transports you. And it does not transport you because you deserved it or earned it, because by definition grace is the gift that exceeds what could ever be deserved.

The word "grace" is used here in its most complete sense: the unearned favour of the divine, the sudden lifting of difficulty, the unexpected opening of a path that had seemed permanently closed. It arrives in the gap between your effort and your need — in the moment you have done all you can do and something larger does the rest.

Landing on this cell is a profound sign. Something in your life right now is being held and guided by a force beyond your personal will. The challenge of Cell Seventeen is simply to recognize this and receive it with humility rather than explaining it away or attributing it entirely to your own cleverness.
