Service

Seva — selfless service — is described in the Bhagavad Gita as one of the three principal paths to liberation: Jnana Yoga (knowledge), Bhakti Yoga (devotion), and Karma Yoga (the yoga of right action and service). Cell Thirty-Six places Service at the mid-board as a reminder that the spiritual path is not only an inward journey. At some point, it must turn outward and give back what it has received.

The Lila's understanding of service is precise: it is not martyrdom, not self-negation, not the suppression of your own needs in favour of everyone else's. Those are distortions of service, and they breed resentment rather than liberation. True seva arises when your natural gifts and your genuine care meet a real need in the world, and you respond not because you feel obligated but because you feel called.

This cell asks: where is your service calling you right now? Not what duty demands, not what looks good from outside, but what genuinely moves your heart when you encounter a particular kind of need? The answer to that question is not only your gift to the world — it is also the path of your own deepest fulfillment.

The practical step: identify one way this week to offer your specific gift — your particular skill, attention, or knowledge — to someone who could genuinely use it.
