Devotion

Cell Twenty carries a ladder of extraordinary grace: Devotion — the full turning of the heart toward the sacred — elevates the soul directly to Cell Thirty-Two, the square of Surrender. This progression is deeply logical. True devotion does not leave the devoted one clinging to their own preferences, agenda, or fears. It dissolves them. The person who has genuinely given their heart to something larger than themselves discovers that the small self's need to control becomes not only unnecessary but irrelevant. This is what the Sufi poets meant by annihilation in the beloved — not death, but the joyful dissolution of the boundary between self and the object of love.

In your current life, this landing is asking: what are you genuinely devoted to? Not what you are obligated to, not what you are performing devotion toward for the sake of appearances, but what has genuinely claimed your heart? Devotion is the quality of love that sustains itself through difficulty, tedium, and even despair, because the love is larger than any single experience within it.
