Lunar Garden Calendar
Biodynamic farming and ancestral wisdom agree: the moon influences soil moisture, plant sap, and growth cycles. Sync your garden with the cosmos.
New Moon - Prepare & Plan
The new moon is the ideal time to plan your garden layout, prepare soil, and add compost. Energy is drawing inward; save actual planting for when the moon begins to wax.

New Moon - Prepare & Plan
NowThe new moon is the ideal time to plan your garden layout, prepare soil, and add compost. Energy is drawing inward; save actual planting for when the moon begins to wax.
Waxing Crescent - Sow Leaf Crops
As lunar energy rises, sap flows upward into leaves and stems. Excellent for sowing herbs, lettuce, and other leafy greens. Water your seeds well - the moon supports germination.
First Quarter - Plant Fruiting Crops
One of the best planting windows in the lunar cycle. The balanced energy between root pull and leaf energy makes this perfect for crops that produce above-ground fruit. Plant seeds and seedlings now.
Waxing Gibbous - Maximum Growth Energy
The waxing gibbous brings maximum upward energy. This is the ideal window to plant anything you want to grow abundantly. Apply fertilizers and foliar sprays - absorption is at its peak.
Full Moon - Harvest & Preserve
The full moon draws maximum moisture into all plant matter. Harvest herbs for drying, preserving, and medicinal use - they will be at their most potent. Pick fruits and vegetables for immediate use.
Waning Gibbous - Root Crops
As the moon wanes, energy flows downward toward roots. Excellent for planting root crops, bulbs, and trees. Harvest now for vegetables intended for storage - they will last longer.
Last Quarter - Prune & Cultivate
The last quarter is the optimal time for pruning, deadheading, weeding, and cultivating soil. Plants respond well to cutting now - wounds heal faster and regrowth is controlled. Ideal for compost turning.
Waning Crescent - Rest the Garden
The waning crescent calls the garden to rest. Focus on observation, soil testing, and planning. This is an excellent time to apply mulch, add organic matter to beds, and allow the soil ecosystem to recover.

Biodynamic Gardening Principles
β¦ Root, Leaf, Flower, Fruit Days
Beyond lunar phases, biodynamic farming recognizes four types of days based on the moon's position in the zodiac: root days (earth signs - best for root crops), leaf days (water signs - leafy greens), flower days (air signs - ornamentals), and fruit days (fire signs - fruiting crops).
β¦ Watering with the Moon
Water your garden during the waxing moon for maximum uptake, and reduce watering during the waning crescent when plants are in a rest state. Dawn watering on waxing days produces the most vigorous results.
β¦ Moon & Pest Control
Pests and slugs are most active around the full moon when moisture peaks. Apply organic pest deterrents during the waning moon when plant sap concentration is lower - treatments penetrate more effectively.
β¦ Composting by Moon Phase
Turn your compost pile during the waning moon for faster decomposition. Add fresh material during the waxing moon. The full moon provides excellent conditions for activating microbial life in your compost heap.
