Hydromancy (water)

Achiromancy

Divination using 25 thin needles placed on rainwater: their floating patterns reveal obstacles and outcomes.

β€œ"Twenty-five needles laid on still water β€” and the water decides which ones shall meet."”

Journal Isida, 1909, "Practical Divination"

Achiromancy places exactly 25 fine needles carefully onto the surface of a plate of collected rainwater. The reader then interprets how the needles arrange themselves. If all needles float separately, the sought event will proceed without interference. Needles that join in pairs indicate obstacles; those clustering in threes signal serious difficulties. The larger the group that forms, the greater the impediment. This precise numeric system β€” 25 needles, counted clusters β€” distinguishes it from other water methods and points to a Near Eastern or Central Asian origin.
